City star Jamie Maclaren has etched his name in history, becoming the A-Leagues greatest ever goal scorer with 143 goals.
A hatrick in City’s 3-1 win over Western United on Saturday night saw Maclaren equal Besart Berisha’s record with his second goal of the night, before re-writing the history books with his third.
It was an extremely special night for our history maker who dedicated his extraordinary achievement to the inspiring words of his late grandfather.
“My dad’s father, before he passed away, said: ‘go and be the greatest’,” Maclaren told 10 Football following the match. “He’s a big football fan and those words have always stuck with me and to know that he’ll be up there watching is huge.”
“I’m just emotional to be honest, it has nothing to do with the goals, it’s more those words that he said have stuck with me and tonight has hit me like a truck.”
