City’s start to the campaign has been a little stop-start so far given an unfortunately timed bye just a week into the season.

Before then, a strong performance away from home saw City return from Wellington with all three points.

Led by now interim Head Coach Dario Vidosic on the day, City’s attacking threats proved to be too much for the Phoenix defence to contain.

Captain for the day, Rhianna Pollicina, starred with two goals and an assist, while Daniela Galic (two assists), Bryleeh Henry (one goal) and Cote Rojas (one goal) all put in great shifts on City debut.

Pollicina could be set to hand over the armband this weekend after usual skipper Emma Checker has been named in the squad and is in the mix for selection after missing Round 1.

While Checker would be a welcome inclusion to the line-up, her addition would leave Vidosic with a headache at the selection table.

A late deflected own goal was all that made its way into Sally James net in what was a strong performance from the City shot-stopper as well as of course the back four in front of her.

Brisbane Roar will enter Saturday’s fixture in good form, yet to taste defeat a couple of rounds into the season.

Larissa Crummer and Sharn Freier fired the Roar past Newcastle in their season opener, before they were held to a 1-1 draw against Canberra last weekend with Crummer again on the scoresheet.

City will also have an extra piece of motivation for Saturday’s clash, with this set to be the first time the two teams face off since Brisbane pinched all three points in what would turn out to be a pivotal fixture late last season.
