Match Preview: Sydney FC v City

We’re set for a Grand Final rematch in the A-League Men as Melbourne City FC and Sydney FC meet for the first time in Season 2021/22.

The clash looms as one which could have significant ramifications around the table’s upper reaches, with both teams again vying for the 2021/22 Premiership after finishing first and second in each of the past two seasons.

City enter Saturday’s clash having won four of its last five fixtures, so will certainly be full of confidence. This fixture will also represent another chance to return to the top of the table, continuing a tug-a-war with Western United over that position which has lasted the last few weeks.

Along with a nice recent run of form, City has also won all three of its most recent away fixtures – all in New South Wales – so Saturday’s trip to Sydney will bring no fear for Patrick Kisnorbo’s men.

The team will be used to moving on quickly from midweek results, though, and will have had to do so again as the team travels to Netstrata Jubilee Stadium to face Sydney FC.

Our opponents from last season’s Grand Final have had an up and down season which now sees them occupying fifth position on the table, most recently going down 1-0 midweek to Western United.

A clash with significant implications for either side, the visiting City will be bolstered by the return of Connor Metcalfe following a one-game suspension for yellow card accumulation.

The team will also hope to have skipper Scott Jamieson back to face the Sky Blues, with the left-back having missed City’s past two fixtures due to a hamstring injury sustained against Adelaide United just under two weeks ago. Kisnorbo confirmed in his pre-match press conference that with a good run on the training pitch, Jamieson would be back in the mix for selection, while Tsubasa Endoh is also now available after having built up his fitness after arriving earlier this month.
