Melbourne City FC defender Nuno Reis extends his stay

Melbourne City FC is excited to announce the re-signing of Portuguese defender Nuno Reis until the end of the 2023/24 season.

Reis joined City in January 2021 and played a big role in City’s Premiers Plate and Championship winning campaign. His impact was immediately felt as City lost just two of his first 15 appearances, going on a Club record winning run in the process.

Reis has since established himself as one of the league’s best central defenders and has formed a strong partnership at the back with Curtis Good.

Now with 43 City appearances to his name, Reis’ re-signing continues to increase the stability and strength of Patrick Kisnorbo’s squad as it targets more silverware after claiming the A-League Premiers Plate for the second consecutive season on Monday night.

Melbourne City FC Director of Football Michael Petrillo said:

“Nuno has been one of our most consistent performers over the last two seasons. Just as importantly, he’s also a great person who highly regarded within our group.

He is a leader on and off the pitch and has proven his quality as one of the A-League’s best defenders with his composure, awareness, and ability on the ball.

I am delighted that Nuno has committed his future to the Club. He has played an integral part in the Club’s recent success with his reliability, passion, and winning mentality.”

Nuno Reis said:

“I am so happy to re-sign with City and stay in Melbourne for another two years.

It was a big move coming out here with my young family, but the fans and the Club have been amazing to us. We love Melbourne, it is a great city, and it feels like home.

I am so proud of what we have achieved as a Club in the last two years. Bringing home two Premiers Plates and a Champions Trophy for the fans felt amazing.

We have a special group that can achieve a lot and I am looking forward to competing for more silverware.”
