Melbourne City FC midfielder Florin Berenguer re-signs

Melbourne City FC is delighted to announce the re-signing of French midfielder Florin Berenguer until the end of the 2022/23 season.

An influential member of City’s A-League Men’s Championship and Premiership winning squad last season, Berenguer has risen to another level this season.

With two goals, three assists and a string of man-of-the-match performances, Berenguer is currently sitting in third place in the voting for the Alex Tobin Medal.

The Frenchman has appeared in 84 games for City across all competitions, scoring 7 times and assisting a further 9 goals.

His most recent appearance, a 2-1 win away at Sydney FC, set a new Melbourne City FC record for most games played by a foreign player.

Australia has become a second home for Berenguer’s young family, and he is delighted to be staying for at least another year.

Melbourne City FC Director of Football Michael Petrillo said:

“Florin has worked hard to become a very important player in our squad. It’s great to see him in career best form this season. He is one of the most technically gifted players in the league and loves to play our style of football.

“I’m delighted that we have been able to extend his contract for another season. Florin is a Premiership and Championship winning player, and his experience and his winning mentality gives us an edge on the pitch.”

Florin Berenguer said:

“I’m very happy to be staying in Melbourne for another year. My family and I love this city and it really feels like home.

“The City fans have been amazing to me and the team, so I thank them for their support.

“I’m really enjoying my football right now. The boys are all committed to working hard for the badge and making the fans proud.”
