Melbourne City FC can announce 21-year-old forward Bruce Kamau has joined the Club’s Hyundai A-League team ahead of the 2016/17 Season.
The emerging winger, who enjoyed a breakout season during the 2015/16 campaign, playing an important role in Adelaide United’s Premiership and Championship-winning season, joins City on a two-year deal until the conclusion of the 2017/18 season.
An energetic contributor on the wing, Kamau scored three goals in 2015/16, including the winner in Round 20’s encounter over Melbourne Victory and providing Adelaide with the ascendancy in the 2016 A-League Grand Final with the opening goal.
Making his professional debut for the Reds in 2014, Kamau made a total of 29 appearances for Adelaide across two A-League seasons, including 18 matches in his second season with the South Australian club.
Having arrived in Australia from Kenya at the age of 4, Kamau commenced his youth career in Adelaide with local clubs N.A.B. SC (now Eastern United), Campbelltown City SC, Adelaide City and Adelaide Olympic, before being recruited into Adelaide United’s National Youth League team in 2013.
Kamau progressed to a first team debut with Adelaide in an exhibition match against Spanish La Liga outfit Malaga CF at Adelaide Oval in July 2014, before making his professional debut against Wellington Phoenix in the Westfield FFA Cup.
A pacy, skillful and exciting forward, Melbourne City FC Head Coach John van’t Schip said Kamau would inject energy and further depth into City’s forward line.
“We’re very happy to welcome Bruce into our squad for next season,” van’t Schip said.
“He is still young, has shown positive signs and he is a player we see as having great potential for further development with us.”
Kamau will join his new teammates in June when City commence pre-season training at the City Football Academy ahead of the 2016/17 A-League season.
