Melbourne City FC signs Englishman Carl Jenkinson on loan

Melbourne City FC is excited to announce the signing of English defender Carl Jenkinson on a six-month loan deal from Nottingham Forest.

The 29-year-old right back who can also be deployed as a defensive midfielder, brings experience and versatility to the City squad, having played for Arsenal and West Ham United in the Premier League.

Most recently with Nottingham Forest in the EFL Championship, Jenkinson started his professional career at Charlton Athletic before joining Arsenal where he made 42 Premier League appearances and a further 29 across the League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League.

He would then join West Ham United on loan where he featured 59 times in all competitions over two seasons before joining Forest in August 2019.

The Englishman has also represented his country at U17 and U21 level, before making his senior England debut in 2012.

Jenkinson will join his new teammates next week and is eager to pull on a City shirt.

Melbourne City FC Director of Football Michael Petrillo said:

“Carl is a player with experience at the highest level that will add to the quality of our squad. We’re pleased to have attracted a player of his caliber to the Club.

“His versatility provides us with a number of options as he can play at right back, as a central defender and in a defensive midfield position. We are confident Carl will suit our attacking style of play and help us to achieve our goals on the pitch”

Carl Jenkinson said:

“I’m excited to be joining a Club that are the current Champions of Australia.

“I’ve heard a lot of good things about both Melbourne as a beautiful city, the professionalism of the Club and the quality of the league.

“I’m looking forward to meeting Patrick and all of the boys in person, learning the team’s style of play and meeting the fans. I can’t wait to get involved.”
