Melbourne City FC can announce the signing of Portuguese defender Nuno Reis. The 29-year-old joins the Club on a three-year deal from Bulgarian giants Levski Sofia.
Reis’ career has seen the Sporting Lisbon youth graduate play in his native Portugal with Olhanense and Vitoria Setubal as well as venturing to Europe with Cercle Brugge, FC Metz and Panathinaikos.
The former Portuguese youth international also captained his country at the 2011 FIFA U20 World Cup in Colombia where his side finished runners up.
Melbourne City FC Director of Football Michael Petrillo said:
“We’re thrilled to complete our squad for the 2020/21 season with someone of the calibre of Nuno Reis.
“Nuno is an experienced defender who has played at a very high level in Europe. He will fit perfectly into our style of play with his intelligence, controlled aggression and skill on the ball.
“We have created a squad with competition for every position and will push everyone in the squad to achieve success this season.”
Nuno Reis said:
“I’m excited to be joining Melbourne City and being a part of something special here in Australia.
“I have spent my career in Europe and for me, the time was right to accept a new challenge in the A-League. As a professional footballer, the project at Melbourne City is very exciting”
Reis is the Club’s eighth signing of the 2020/21 pre-season joining Naoki Tsubaki, Ben Garuccio, Andrew Nabbout, Marco Tilio, Matt Sutton, Taras Gomulka and Aiden O’Neil at Melbourne City for the 2020/21 season.
