NPL Preview: City v Box Hill United

Melbourne City’s NPL side will look to maintain its hopes for promotion this Sunday as it takes on Box Hill United at Wembley Park.

City’s hopes to move to Victoria’s top tier were dealt a blow last weekend as they were defeated by fellow promotion hopefuls St Albans Saints.

Rodrigo Covarrubias’ double secured the result for second-placed St Albans as Austin Wong picked up City’s consolation at the CFA’s Academy Pitches. City now sit fifth with five matches to go, five points from St Albans in second place and six from Whittlesea Ranges in first.

Although City sit at the bottom of the chasing pack, their run home has them up against opposition where they are favourites to pick up maximum points including this week’s fixture against Box Hill United.

Box Hill come into the contest off a shaky couple of weeks after they pulled off one of the upsets of the season, defeating Dandenong Thunder.

A convincing loss to Springvale and a 1-1 draw with Goulburn Valley Suns saw Greg Kassidis’ men fall to fifth spot over the past month with Kingston City and Thunder still run away leaders in the competition.

Fans are reminded that this fixture was changed to Wembley Park from the CFA’s Academy Pitches.
