Opposition team news: Nix on duty for Round 1

Thumbnail

Wellington Phoenix have submitted their team for our season opener on Saturday. See who Ernie Merrick has selected in his extended side for the contest.

The Phoenix come into the clash with four Kiwi internationals away on international duty as the All Whites head to North America for friendlies against Mexico and the United States.

Michael McGlinchey, Louis Fenton, Andrew Durante and danger man Kosta Barbarouses will miss the contest representing their country while Matthew Ridenton is still 2-3 weeks away with his knee injury sustained in the pre-season.

Although the Nix have been depleted by FIFA’s schedule, the Kiwis will be fit and raring to go with the likes of Gui Finkler and Marco Rossi added to their roster in the off season.

John van’t Schip’s side will be wary of a Wellington squad that defeated City in pre-season and would have studied the tapes from the contest that saw a 4-1 loss.

We’ll be holding a special fan screening of the match on Saturday afternoon. Join your fellow City fans in Melbourne at The Mountain View Hotel, 70 Bridge Road, Richmond from 4.30pm with the match kicking off at 5.35pm. Join our event on Facebook!
