Melbourne City FC will take on Western Australia National Premier Leagues side Floreat Athena in the Round of 32 of the Westfield FFA Cup on Tuesday 2 August, kick-off 8:30pm AEST, 6:30pm local.

Melbourne City FC will play on Matchday 2 of the FFA Cup as they travel across the Nullarbor to face their first opponent in the 2016 edition of the competition.

John van’t Schip’s men will travel to Dorrien Gardens, home to Perth Soccer Club, to face Floreat in a tricky first fixture of the cup competition.

Dorrien Gardens was also the home of Perth Glory’s 2015 FFA Cup Quarter Final triumph over Western Sydney Wanderers with an estimated capacity of 4,000.

van’t Schip says Athena will be an unknown entity for his side but looks forward to the challenge of heading to Perth.

“It’s going to be a game we don’t know much about the opposition. We trained there a few times and we know people of the club but we don’t know the way they play or their team so we will definitiely do our research,” van’t Schip said.

“I think it’s good in pre-season we can be together and travel. It’s also an new opportunity for our new players to gel. On top of that, we have an important game and it’s something that we can use in a good way.

City’s clash with Floreat will be broadcasted on Fox Sports’ live stream service that will be available to subscribers.
