A chance to play a new position and work under Head Coach Rado Vidosic were the major factors in Kaityn Torpey’s decision to swap Brisbane for Melbourne. Following a W-League debut at just 16, Torpey spent the first five seasons of her career at the Roar, but the time was now right to make the tough decision to move on and take up a new challenge. While last season may have been a blip, there’s no doubt the professionalism and success of the Club played a major role in the hard-working defender’s decision to join City.
Melbourne City FC are happy to announce the signing of defender Kaityn Torpey for the upcoming W-League season. A former Young Matilda, Torpey made 43 appearances for Brisbane Roar since making her W-League debut as a 16-year-old in 2016. The hard-working fullback will add attacking threat to Rado Vidosic’s squad this season, as she joins the likes of Emma Checker, Rebekah Stott, Tori Tumeth, and Chelsea Blissett in what is shaping up to be a strong defensive unit.
Sitting on less than 10 career A-League starts going into last season, the past nine months have panned out like something out of City midfielder Connor Metcalfe’s wildest dreams. The 21-year-old is now both an A-League Premier and Champion, a Socceroo, an Olympian, and a Harry Kewell Medallist. It sure has been a ‘pretty crazy’ ride for Metcalfe, who puts his breakout season down to staying fit, healthy, and having the consistency of playing week in, week out.
Melbourne City FC W-League Captain Emma Checker has been named in the Matildas 25-player squad for the upcoming fixture against the Republic of Ireland. The match will take place on 22 September 2021 at Tallaght Stadium, Dublin and will be live and free on 10 and 10 Play with kick-off set for 4:00am. It will a chance for Checker to earn her eighth international cap after most recently appearing in a pair of April friendlies against Germany and Netherlands.
We are excited to announce the re-signing of 20-year-old defender Tori Tumeth for the next two W-League seasons. Tumeth made the move from New South Wales in 2020, appearing in every fixture of her inaugural season at Australia’s top level. After making her W-League debut in Round 1 against Brisbane Roar, Tumeth went on to start in all but one game.
We are excited to announce the re-signing of midfielder Leah Davidson until the end of the 2022/23 season. Davidson made the move from Brisbane in 2020 and didn’t take long to make her mark in Melbourne. The hard-working midfielder played all but four minutes of City’s 2020/21 season, and was one of our most important players, showing great instincts and positioning throughout the campaign.
That Derby goal, a Premiership, a goal and an assist in a semi-final, capped off with a Championship was a dream breakthrough season for boyhood fan of the Club, Stefan Colakovski. Cola, one of our own, started his journey with the club as a 10-year-old fan of Melbourne...

We are pleased to today announce the re-signing of defender Chelsea Blissett for the next three seasons. It’s news that will excite City fans, with the defender missing the entirety of the 2020/21 W-League season after tearing her anterior crucial ligament in pre-season last December. The...
