Melbourne City has wrapped up its pre-season preparations with a 2-0 win over Adelaide United behind closed doors at Coopers Stadium on Friday.
The final pre-season fixture before this Friday’s season opener against Brisbane Roar saw Nick Fitzgerald and Stefan Mauk find the back of the net either side of the break to secure the result for Warren Joyce’s side.
New signing Marcin Budzinski was in the thick of it early, having a chance from distance and a free-kick to Fitzgerald inches wide as the Pole continues to fit in to the City side.
Bruce Kamau and Fitzgerald continued to push the Reds and the latter would have his reward after 42 minutes with a signature inside cut and finish past Paul Izzo despite the Adelaide keeper getting a hand to the ball.
City would then double their lead after the break as Mauk found yet another pre-season goal after 55 minutes. The midfielder was the beneficiary of scramble inside the six yard box as the ball fell out to the former Adelaide man to finish from close range.
Both sides looked to reserve themselves during the latter stage of the second half with one eye on Round 1 next week as City reversed their earlier fixture result against the Reds to cap off a positive pre-season.
