The revised fixture for the 2019/20 Hyundai A-League season has been released with Melbourne City FC locked in to face Western United, Adelaide United and Sydney FC in July and August.
The Hyundai A-League and FFA revealed the new fixture on Wednesday, seeing the remaining 27 games to be played in a bumper 28 days. City – who stacked a number of fixtures before the COVID-19 break – will only have three regular season matches to play as Erick Mombaerts’ side looks to lock down second spot and the chance to qualify for a Semi Final.
With venues still to be confirmed in the ever-changing environment of professional sport during COVID-19, City will continue their preparations for their first match back on Monday 20 July against Western United.
Matches against Sydney FC (Saturday 1 August) and Adelaide United (Tuesday 11 August) round out the regular season with the Finals Series to be played between Saturday 15 August and the Grand Final on Sunday 23 August.
Melbourne City FC Director of Football Michael Petrillo was pleased with the Club’s draw, saying he’s delighted the team will have the chance to finish the season.
“We’ve worked incredibly hard to come this far in 2019/20 and we’re looking forward to the chance to finish the season strongly and compete for our first Championship,” Petrillo said.
“We know there has been a lot of work put in behind the scenes to get the league back running again and the chance to showcase our game is a massive opportunity that we are proud to be a part of.
“With three matches left of our regular season and a full squad to choose from, we feel this will help our push towards the Finals Series and beyond.”
