Rostyn Griffiths is set to depart Melbourne City FC to join sister club, Mumbai City FC in the Indian Super League.
Griffiths made the move to Melbourne to join City in 2018, going on to feature 94 times for the Club, whilst racking up a total of 214 A-League Men appearances throughout his career in Australia’s domestic competition.
He has seen a great deal of success during his time in Melbourne, bringing plenty of versatility and experience to a squad that won back-to-back Premierships and appeared in three consecutive Grand Finals.
The now 34-year-old has been a valuable asset to City both on and off the pitch, being deployed either as a central defender or defensive midfielder while he has also been a great presence in the dressing room.
Griffiths will re-unite with former Melbourne City Assistant Coach Des Buckingham, who is now Head Coach of Mumbai City.
He found the back of the net on four occasions during his time in Melbourne and currently sits sixth on the Men’s all-time appearance list.
“I’ve met some fantastic people through the Club,” Griffiths said, “Staff, players and of course, the fans.
“Over the past four seasons, we’ve had some great times together. Three times in a row in the Grand Final, back-to-back Premierships, Championship winners and of course the Club’s first ever ACL campaign.
“It’s not just the success we’ve had on the football pitch, but I’m so appreciative of everything that Melbourne and Victoria has given to me and my family.
“I’ve seen a lot happen for this Club over the last four seasons, and I believe that it’s now set up for long term success.”
Everyone at Melbourne City would like to thank Rostyn for all he’s contributed to the Club and all his efforts in a City shirt. We wish him all the best at Mumbai.
