Melbourne Heart FC confirms the appointment of Socceroo legend John Aloisi as the club-s new Head Coach for the next three Hyundai A-League seasons.

Aloisi, 36, was a foundation player with the club and joined the coaching staff upon his retirement from playing at the end of the 2010/11 season.

Chairman Peter Sidwell said Aloisi-s appointment signalled a significant day for the club as it embarks on the next phase of its journey.

“John-s elevation to the role of head coach marks the opening of a significant chapter in our club-s history as we look to build upon the foundations laid throughout the first two seasons of our existence and establish ourselves as a force in the Hyundai A-League,” Sidwell said.

“The Melbourne Heart way is to provide pathways and develop from within, and John-s appointment to the head coaching role is certainly reflective of that philosophy.

“We considered a number of outstanding candidates both externally and internally, but we ultimately reached a conclusion John was the right man to lead us forward as we continue our development as a club.”

Having played for the likes of Guus Hiddink, former FC Barcelona and England coach Terry Venables and ex-Mexican national team coach Javier Aguirre during a decorated 15-year professional career, Aloisi assumes the role boasting substantial experience at the elite level.

The only Socceroo to have played in Europe-s three leading competitions – English Premier League, Italian Serie A and Spanish Primera Liga – Aloisi ranks as one of Australia-s most successful football exports, earning international selection on 55 occasions, scoring 27 goals.

“I-m honoured and delighted to have been appointed Head Coach of Melbourne Heart FC,” Aloisi said.

“The club is well positioned to succeed, with an exciting young core at the heart of our team, and I-m confident we will be able to build on last season-s success over the next few years.”

Following his retirement, Aloisi worked closely with John van ‘t Schip and Ante Milicic, in addition to leading the club-s National Youth League side during its inaugural campaign.

The Club is also delighted to welcome aboard Kappa as its new apparel partner for the next two Hyundai A-League seasons.

A brand synonymous with football, Kappa has supplied kits for the likes of reigning German Champions Borussia Dortmund and Italian giants AS Roma in recent years, and its partnership with Melbourne Heart FC marks a long awaited return to the Australian market.
