Melbourne City FC legend and new signing, Rebekah Stott, couldn’t be happier to be back in City blue.
Stott has enjoyed a wealth of success at the club, winning four championships and two premierships on her way to becoming our A-League Women’s all-time appearance holder.
“It feels amazing, I’m so happy to be back at Melbourne City,” Stott said following her signing. “This club is incredible and I’ve spent a lot of my footballing years here and been quite successful, so I’m just so happy to be back.”
“I’ve been fortunate enough to win a lot of championships here and I hold those memories very close to me.
“I definitely want to try and push the team and create that success again. I want to bring my experience and get back to those winning ways and hopefully we can have a really successful season.”
With 93 appearances for New Zealand’s Football Ferns, Stott has been to two Olympic Games and three FIFA Women’s World Cups. She has also played professionally in England, Germany, America and Norway.
It’s those experiences that will help her guide and mentor her younger City teammates.
“I think I can really lean on my experience to help the younger players, to guide them and to share a bit of my experience and knowledge with them,” Stott said.
The technical defender joins City fresh off a historic World Cup campaign with New Zealand. Stott started in each of the Ferns World Cup fixtures, including their historic opening game.
New Zealand secured their first ever World Cup win, men’s or women’s, when they upset Norway 1-0. A match that is set to change the game forever in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
“It was definitely the highlight of my life, playing and winning our first ever game at a World Cup was something so special,” Stott said.
“The adrenaline we all had made it a bit of a blur, but it was incredible.
“Women’s football won’t ever be the same again, it’ll grow so much from this and it’s amazing to see.”
