Tabain reaches Westfield W-League milestone

Marianna Tabain etched her name into the Westfield W-League history books after becoming only the second player to notch a century of league appearances in last Sunday’s Melbourne Derby.

Tabain followed on from Westfield Matildas co-captain and Brisbane Roar defender Claire Polkinghorne, who was the first to achieve the milestone a week earlier.

The forward was presented with a commemorative 100 game jersey at half-time of City’s Hyundai A-League match against Central Coast Mariners on Thursday night.

A talented attacker with a keen eye for goal, the achievement is testament to Tabain’s consistency since making her W-League debut as a foundation player for Perth Glory in 2008.

After spending seven seasons with her hometown club, Tabain joined City for its inaugural W-League season in 2015, playing a key role in the Club’s unbeaten Premiership and Championship double with seven goals in 14 matches.

Her stellar form continued into the new campaign, where Tabain scored the only goal in City’s 1-0 win over Newcastle Jets on the opening day of the Westfield W-League 2016/17 season.

Tabain will hope to add another goal to her tally on Sunday as City aims to secure its place in the Westfield W-League Finals Series with a win over Brisbane Roar at CB Smith Reserve.
