Team News: City locks in squad for ALW opener

The new season is just days away as your City Women gear up for a trip across the ditch to face Wellington on Sunday.

Head Coach Dario Vidosic has now confirmed his squad that will be looking to begin the new campaign with three points away from home.

The squad is headlined by Captain Rebekah Stott who makes her return to the Club and is set to pull on a City shirt for the 76th time.

New signings Taylor Otto, Laura Hughes and Canadian World Cup goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx are all among the new faces who are in contention to make their club debuts after impressing in pre-season.

There are plenty of familiar names in the mix too, the likes of Rhianna Pollicina, Holly McNamara, Kaitlyn Torpey and Hannah Wilkinson all raring to go for another season.

This is set to be just the third meeting between teams with the Phoenix being one of the newest teams to the competition.

City fans will be hoping for a similar result to these previous fixtures having scored four times in each and only conceded once.

Wilkinson and Torpey were both on the scoresheet the first time around in 2021/22, while a Bryleeh Henry goal and Pollicina double went a long way to securing the three points last season.

After having impressed throughout pre-season, Leia Varley was one of two new scholarship signings announced on Thursday morning and has been included in the squad for Sunday’s clash.
