TWO MORE FOR TORPEY: Defender signs contract extension

After an impressive first season in City blue, we’re excited to announce that Kaitlyn Torpey has re-signed through to the end of the 2023/24 A-League Women’s season.

Torpey was one of only five City players to appear in every fixture of last season, making her 50th league appearance in the process.

The hard-working defender made her presence felt at both ends of the pitch, finding the back of the net three times after having only scored once prior to joining City.

Head Coach Rado Vidosic said he was delighted to have a player or Torpey’s quality commit to City for the next two years.

“Kaitlyn was a key member of our team last season, so it’s great to have her returning for the next couple of years.

“She picked up our style of play very quickly which is a credit to how hard she works on the training pitch and her commitment to improve as a player every day.

“Now with over 50 appearances at the level, Kaitlyn is one of the most experienced members of our squad and will continue to develop her leadership skills over the next couple of seasons.”

Torpey said she couldn’t have asked for a better first season at City, making her decision to re-sign an easy one.

“I absolutely loved my first season at Melbourne,” she said, “I was lucky enough to play alongside a talented group of girls, get some decent game minutes and I learnt so much off Rado.”

“City is just an amazing club and my experience last season was certainly one of my favourites in the A-League Women so far.

“I’m very happy to continue to call City home for the next two years.”

Torpey becomes City’s ninth contracted player for the 2022/23 A-League Women’s season, with plenty more re-signing and signing news to come in the next few weeks!
