Melbourne Heart FC Head Coach John van ‘t Schip has expressed his admiration for the work of volunteers after spending time in the tally room and answering calls as part of the Good Friday Appeal.

Van ‘t Schip joined countless others in donating his time to raise funds for the Royal Children-s Hospital last Friday during the 79th staging of the iconic Victorian event.

The former Dutch international revealed he was touched by the experience, praising the dedication of volunteers who spent hours in the tally room answering the calls of thousands of Victorians who helped raise a record $14,462,000.

“The atmosphere in the tally room was great and really full of optimism. For many people there, helping out on Good Friday is a yearly event,” he said.

“We were seated beside one lady in particular who has answered phones every Good Friday for over 30 years which is an incredible commitment and shows the amazing community spirit which exists in Victoria.”

New signing Kamal Ibrahim also participated in the fundraising activities, assisting the Victoria Police in their annual barbeque on the concourse outside Etihad Stadium while mingling with fans keen to hear about the Hyundai A-League-s newest side.

General Manager of Community Sue Crow said the club was honoured to have been invited to take part in the event.

“No event throughout the country more clearly demonstrates the importance of charity than the Good Friday Appeal, encapsulating the sense of duty felt by many Victorians to help out those in need and our club was proud to play a part, however small,” she said.

“Making a contribution in the general community is a central aspect of Melbourne Heart FC-s overriding philosophy to develop into a club which is representative of the wider Victorian community.”

With the countdown to the club-s competition debut well underway, Melbourne Heart FC invites you to register for priority access and become a member at the Hyundai A-League-s newest football club.
