Our Uruguayan marvel marks his A-League milestone in style, we celebrate Intenational Women’s Day with a week of activities and a round-up of the best of social media. It has been a busy week in our City.

Milestone man Bruno at the double

40 goals in 50 Hyundai A-League appearances. Hats off to you, Bruno Fornaroli.

City’s Uruguayan ace celebrated his league milestone in style against the Central Coast Mariners last Sunday, netting a brace to carry his side to an important 3-2 win during a testing encounter in Gosford.

His first goal – a delightful bending free-kick into the bottom corner – displayed the immense quality we have come to expect from Fornaroli since he took the A-League by storm in his record-breaking debut season.

His second demonstrated both his composure and sheer determination, first charging down a clearance from Mariners keeper Paul Izzo to win a penalty, before smashing the resulting spot-kick down the middle to seal all three points.

And of course, who could forget this famous video…

Vamos, Bruno!

Happy #IWD2017!

To celebrate International Women’s Day 2017 and Female Football Week, Melbourne City held a range of activities designed to break down barriers for women and girls’ participation in football.

On Tuesday, we hosted a special speed mentoring event for secondary school girls at the City Football Academy in Melbourne. W-League Championship winning midfielder Amy Jackson was among a range of inluential female mentors across various backgrounds, who provided over 50 secondary school girls with an insight into the different career pathways sport has to offer.

The winger has waited paitently for an opportunity to cement his position in the starting XI, and his purple patch of form suggests he has taken his chance with both hands. Fitzgerald was instrumental in a rousing City comeback during a 2-2 draw with Brisbane, before notching up two assists in our 5-1 demolition of Wellington in New Zealand.

Don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about this scorcher of a strike either!

Our W-League stars teamed up with Manchester City Women and the Women’s Tennis Association for some cross-sporting challenges…
