Australian attacker Lachlan Wales joined Melbourne City FC ahead of the 2018/19 season, following a breakout season with the Mariners in the 2017/18 campaign. Born in Terrigal, Australia, the midfielder spent four years with the Central Coast Mariners Academy before making his senior debut for the Mariners in 2018. The speedy winger showcased glimpses of his promising future in his first season in City blue, making 26 appearances and demonstrating his attacking threat in the front third.
