Melbourne City FC defender Curtis Good has insisted there is no form of complacency creeping into the squad ahead of Wednesday night’s semi-final.
City has won all three previous meetings with Western United during the season but will need to win one more if it’s to qualify for its first ever Hyundai A-League Grand Final.
Speaking ahead of the do-or-die clash, central defender Curtis Good said: “I don’t think there has been any complacency here, we’ve always trained hard and done what’s required.”
“We’ve here a while with the intent of being in this position so it’s good it’s finally here and we’re getting that excitement up.
“It (being in a hub) does drag on a little bit the longer you are here, but I have to give credit to the boys and the staff because everyone has kept doing their job and doing it to the best of their abilities.”
Despite never having made a Grand Final, Good said the Club’s inability to feature on the last day of the season in the past is not of concern to the current group.
“You can look at it from the outside as a mental thing [dropping big games] but when we’re out there, it doesn’t cross my mind personally and it’s just another game we have to win,” he said.
“I think we are probably in the best position we have ever been coming into these finals.”
Good said City would take confidence from the wins against Western United during the season, including a 3-1 victory last week, but finals were hard to predict and his team would have to be on their toes.
“We’ve played pretty well against them every time we’ve played them, but you have to remember that it’s finals, so the intensity is going to be up,” Good emphasised.
