After scoring an outrageous goal in the 5-1 smashing of Central Coast on Thursday night, Melbourne City’s Aaron Mooy says the team’s excellent attack is being complemented by better defensive work.
Defence has been an area City coach John van’ t Schip has been looking to improve all season, despite a number of injuries to the back four.

And now the team is scoring for fun – 10 in the last two matches – better defensive work appears to be the missing link for the hottest side in the A-League right now.
“I thought the team defensively was very good tonight,” Mooy told ABC Radio.
“Just one little mistake with the penalty but overall we played a good game and we showed we can score goals.”
City heaped more misery on the Mariners to run out convincing 5-1 winners, in the process registering their first win in Gosford and their second 5-1 win in as many weeks.
French striker Harry Novillo bagged a brace and Uruguayan forward Bruno Fornaroli edged ahead in the golden boot standings with another goal, while Stefan Mauk and Aaron Mooy also found the back of the net for the visitors.
“Everyone had a great game. Harry [Novillo], Bruno [Fornaroli] and you keep naming them. It was a good night for us,” added Mooy, arguably the best player in the A-League right now.
Mooy’s goal in particular was a peach.
He received a short pass and made a bee-line for goal, weaving his way forward and unleashing a venomous shot into the roof of the net.
“We can build on it. And we’ve got good enough players to score goals and we were very good at the back,” Mooy said.
City now have a 10-day break before they meet Newcastle Jets away on December 13.
