U20 WWC: Two new City faces to represent Young Matildas

Two of the most exciting new faces in City’s A-League Women’s squad are Colombia bound for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.

New signings Alexia Apostolakis and Emilia Murray have both been included in Leah Blayney’s 21-player squad, the former making it a second U20 World Cup selection after representing Australia in Costa Rica back in 2022.

Drawn into Group A, the Young Matildas are set to face host nation Colombia, Mexico and Cameroon when the tournament kicks off on the final day of August.

Apostolakis has been named Vice Captain of the team, alongside former City Premiership winner Naomi Chinnama.

While the new City duo will be absent from the early stages of pre-season due to their World Cup commitments, Apostolakis and Murray will return in time to prepare for our AFC Champions League campaign.

Daniela Galic, a familiar face for City fans, will unfortunately not be in action, the Women’s Young Footballer of the Year not being made available for selection after her recent move to FC Twente.
