Melissa Barbieri is going nowhere, with the experienced goalkeeper committing to a ninth season at Melbourne City FC.
Her new deal will see Barbieri’s professional career extend into a remarkable 29th year, as she continues to play a vital role in the Club’s Women’s program both on and off the pitch.
The 45-year-old made four appearances last season, including a debut in the AFC Women’s Champions League, while adding to her tally of more than 100 domestic appearances.

Since joining City in 2017, Barbieri has been a cornerstone of the Women’s squad, contributing to three Premierships and two Championships across her eight seasons. A former Matildas captain, she continues to provide unmatched experience, guidance, and leadership in her dual role as both player and Assistant Coach.

Her influence extends well beyond the pitch, serving as a mentor to the next generation of City players and ensuring the Club’s proud standards remain high as the squad pushes for more silverware during the 2025/26 season.
Melbourne City FC Director of Football, Michael Petrillo, said:
“There’s not much left to say about Bubs that hasn’t already been said – her career speaks for itself.
“She’s a legend of Australian football and has been an integral part of the proud history of our Women’s program.
“Her professionalism, leadership and sheer love for the game continue to inspire those around her, and we’re delighted she’ll be with us again this season.”
Melissa Barbieri said:
“Melbourne City really is home for me. This Club isn’t just about football – it’s about the people, and they are my family.
“Every day I get to live my dream by pulling on this shirt, and I don’t take that for granted.
“We’ve got a really special group here, and I love pushing myself alongside my teammates and coaches – we drive each other to be better. I’m excited for what’s ahead this season and I’ll be giving everything to help us achieve success together.”
