MAZZEO: I want to make every moment count

City Academy Product, Ben Mazzeo, has reflected on the pride that comes with signing his first professional contract for the Club he grew up supporting.

The youngster first joined the City Academy in 2018, before overcoming several injury setbacks to work his way up the ranks – quickly impressing with his raw pace and technical ability.

From sitting in the stands and cheering on the likes of Aaron Mooy to walking out alongside the first team at AAMI Park, signing with City is a full circle moment for the 18-year-old winger.

“I’m thrilled to have been offered the opportunity to play for the Club I grew up supporting,” Mazzeo said. “This is a significant milestone in my soccer journey.”

This moment marks the beginning of a new chapter for me and the opportunity to continue to grow as a player.

“I am so grateful that my passion has now become my career.”

Having spent over five years at the Club, Mazzeo emphasised the importance of the environment he’s been provided to excel in.

“It’s been an incredible journey being part of the Club since I was 12 years of age,” Mazzeo reflected. “Melbourne City has played an integral part in my development having challenged me to be the best player I could be.”

“The professional environment throughout the Junior Academy has played a vital role getting me to where I am today. It’s been a privilege to grow as a player in the best academy in Australia.”

Mazzeo has quickly become a fan favourite, netting his first professional goal in his starting debut, and making several impactful appearances off the bench.

“My goals for the remainder of the season are to contribute to the team’s success, continuously improve my performance and making every moment on the pitch count,” Mazzeo said.

“Being a regular part of the A-League Men’s squad in the last few months has been an incredible experience,” he added. “The support from my teammates and coaches has been instrumental in my growth.”

Their encouragement motivates me to give my best on the field and I am grateful for the trust that they have placed in me. I have also enjoyed every minute spending time with fans after games.

“Since my transition to the A-League Men’s squad the players have welcomed me into the team and have provided me great guidance and mentorship for which I am very grateful. I’m thrilled to take this step and represent the Club at a professional level.”
