Melbourne City FC sign Australian midfielder James Jeggo

Melbourne City FC is excited to announce the signing of Australian midfielder, James Jeggo, who joins the Club from Scottish Premiership team Hibernian FC on a two-year deal through to the end of the 2024/25 season with an option to extend until the 2025/26 season.

Jeggo has earned 15 caps for the Socceroos and brings a wealth of European football experience to City, having spent the past eight seasons abroad, including stints in Austria, Belgium, Greece, and most recently with Hibernian in Scotland.

The 31-year-old is a technically gifted midfielder who possesses great versatility and a strong work ethic. Jeggo’s addition bolsters Head Coach Aurelio Vidmar’s squad following the mid-season departure of Hamza Sakhi for personal reasons.

Born in Vienna, Austria, Jeggo relocated to Australia as a child and joins the Club in the city he grew up in.

Melbourne City FC Director of Football, Michael Petrillo, said:

“We are thrilled to welcome James to the Club.

“His considerable experience in Europe and with the Socceroos will add significant depth to our midfield. He’s a highly skilled footballer who will further strengthen our squad as we embark on the business end of the season.

“Not only will James bring an abundance of experience both in Australia and abroad, he’s a player that will suit our style of play and one that City fans will enjoy watching over the coming seasons.”

James Jeggo said:

“I am delighted to be joining Melbourne City for the next couple of seasons. It’s an opportunity that really excites me and one I’m really looking forward to.

“After eight years abroad, now was the right time for me to return home to Melbourne and I can’t wait to get to work and meet the City fans.

“This is a Club that has had great success in recent years. Its professionalism and facilities are second to none in the country and I want to play my part in adding to that success.”
