TILIO: I want to repay the Club

Melbourne City and Socceroos star attacker, Marco Tilio, will play his first game at AAMI Park since returning to the Club when City host Melbourne Victory on Saturday night.

Ahead of the Melbourne Derby, Tilio opened up on returning to City and repaying the faith the Club showed in him.

“It’s a massive game, and to be back here at City and to represent this Club at a Derby for my first home game [since returning], I can’t wait and I’m really looking forward to it,” Tilio said.

“I had an opportunity to come back and to give back to the Club that nurtured me and brought me here as a young player, that gave me every opportunity and helped me grow and I can only thank them for the time I had here before, and I want to hopefully repay them in this time here now.”

On a personal note, it’s a big few months ahead for the speedy attacker.

“It’s an important six months for myself, we have the Asian Cup in April with the 23s and that’s obviously the Olympic Qualifiers,” he said.

“It’s a massive thing for the team and I want to help them hopefully qualify for another Olympics and to be able to go to another Olympic Games would be pretty special.”

City will be looking to bounce back strongly following a disappointing result against Brisbane Roar last Saturday, and there’s no greater stage to do it on, than a Melbourne Derby at AAMI Park.

“It’s about process and about winning every game, and it starts this weekend with a massive Melbourne Derby,” Tilio said.

“It’s huge, it doesn’t get better than a Melbourne Derby, it’s the pinnacle and I think it’s a massive opportunity for us to bounce back from last week.

“Once we get everyone back, I think we’re going to come on strong towards the back end of the season.”
