CONFIRMED: Rebekah Stott to continue as Women’s Captain

Melbourne City is delighted to announce that Rebekah Stott will once again wear the Captain’s armband, leading the Women’s team as they commence the 2024/25 season.

New Head Coach, Michael Matricciani, confirmed the news to his playing squad on the eve of the Club’s inaugural AFC Women’s Champions League Group Stage fixture this Sunday.

Upon her return to City, the New Zealand centurion captained the Club to a stellar season last year, securing the Premiers Plate and a Champions League birth.

One of City’s most decorated players, Stott will continue to lead by example as the Club chases further success in both the AFC Women’s Champions League and the Ninja A-League competition.

Speaking to the group, Matricciani said, “Captains are those who lead by example and have a deep care for the group.

For me, it was clear from day one that Rebekah Stott is the leader best suited to represent this team.”

Stott expressed her excitement at continuing in the role: “It’s a great honour to captain this team. Last year was very new to me, and I learned a lot, but this group of girls is amazing, and I really hope we can achieve more success this year.”

With Stott’s leadership and Matricciani at the helm, City will face Bam Khatoon in their season opener on Sunday 6 October.
