Melbourne City stars Holly McNamara and Taylor Otto have been recognised for their standout performances, earning nominations for the Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) Player of the Month award for April.
The City duo played crucial roles in a historic month for the Club’s A-League Women’s side, who completed an Invincible season and secured the Premiers Plate in style.
City kicked off the month with a commanding 4-1 win over Newcastle Jets at AAMI Park, where McNamara once again showed her class in front of goal. The electric attacker netted a brace, opening the scoring in the 20th minute before doubling the advantage just after the half-hour mark.
The team followed up with a dominant 5-1 win away to Perth Glory, clinching the Premiership with an unbeaten record.
On that occasion, Otto found the back of the net with two towering headers to secure her own brace. McNamara also added another goal, taking her tally to 15 for the season and claiming the Golden Boot in the process.
McNamara has been one of the competition’s most lethal forwards throughout the campaign, regularly causing havoc for opposition defences with her pace, movement and finishing.
At the other end of the pitch, Otto has continued to impress with her assured performances at centre-back. Forming a strong partnership with captain Rebekah Stott, the American defender has provided composure, aerial dominance and leadership to City’s backline.
The PFA Player of the Month award is voted on by players across the A-Leagues, recognising outstanding performances throughout the month.
City fans will be hoping the accolades keep coming as the team looks ahead to finals football – don’t miss the chance to watch the side lift the 2024/25 A-League Women’s Premiers Plate this Saturday 26 April at AAMI Park.
