CitC launches I Speak Football program at Casey Fields Primary

City in the Community had the pleasure of launching its successful I Speak Football program at Casey Fields Primary School recently, much to the delight of students in year five and six.

The school is just a long kick away from the club’s base in Casey Fields and there is definitely plenty of neighbourly love!

The program is designed to allow kids at the school who have barriers to mainstream football the opportunity to play with friends, socialise and enjoy positive mentoring from CitC staff and Young Leaders.

Many of the students from diverse cultural backgrounds have a love of the game and dream of one day playing for Melbourne City at all levels.

Participants play in the spirit of fair-play way with positivity, encouragement and support from their coaches. The charities Inclusion Coordinator and program coach, Nick Schmull, was elated with the start of the program.

“Kids just love playing and having fun straight after school,” Nick said. “After all the lockdowns in the last few years, they love connecting with us and dreaming big.”

Some of the participants were also on site  recently to see the launch of the Club’s new training pitch.

Casey Fields Primary have welcomed us with open arms since we relocated to Casey.

“We want to support them too. That’s what community is all about,” Head of Community Sunil Menon said.

“We look forward to working with them on this and many other projects that support  young people in the area”.
