This month we are highlighting one of our amazing Young Leaders who has shown her passion and want to make a difference in her community.
City’s move out to the South East was perfect for Berwick local and City in the Community Young Leader Izzy Johnson.
Izzy was already a fan of Melbourne City and a regular at AAMI Park, but decided she wanted to become involved with CITC in January this year.
“I love what CITC is about and all the different ways they help out the community,” Izzy said.
“I wanted to get involved in different areas of the Club behind the scenes, rather than just supporting the team on the pitch.”
Although she is just still in her final years of school at Berwick College, Izzy has still found time to help out in many areas of CITC across gamedays and after-school.
This includes assisting with Halftime Heroes for A-League Men matches and in football clinics out in the community.
She also has an eye for photography and being a Young Leader enabled her to get an opportunity that most 16-year-old football and photography lovers could only dream of.
“Getting the chance to take photos at an A-League Men game was probably one of my favourite moments in my time at the Club so far,” Izzy said.
She may not have an exact dream job in mind yet at this stage but does know the area she wants to be involved in after she finishes school.
“I definitely want to be doing something that is actively helping the community and hopefully that is still at City,” Izzy said.
“Obviously a lot of my time is taken up now with school but I’m certainly very keen to get involved in all of the different programs such as Homework Clubs and Walking Football once I’m finished.”
Having tossed and turned a bit herself before deciding to get involved with CITC, Izzy also had some advice for other young people who may be in a similar position.
“I’d say just take the leap and do it. It’s one of those things that you might think about and sit on for a while, but I know for me it’s been so beneficial and so enjoyable,” she said.
