Cityzens Giving, City Football Group’s global community initiative, which supports Young Leaders around the world to change lives through the power of football, is back for its sixth year. This year we will once again be donating $750,000 and fans of Melbourne City FC will have the power to decide how the funding is split.
The more votes a project gets, the more funding it will receive.
This year’s six community football projects, which will be supported through funding and leadership training, are in Melbourne, Manchester, New York City, Mumbai, Philadelphia and Cape Coast, Ghana. The projects all use football as a tool to tackle challenging social issues.
Focusing on girls’ empowerment, social inclusion, safe water, connecting communities, education and providing safe spaces, the Cityzens Giving projects are all run by passionate Young Leaders, who share a combined love for football and a desire to make a positive difference.
Cityzens Giving will also unlock the expertise of City’s partners to support and amplify projects. Software experts, SAP, will be using their data analytics to measure the impact of projects in New York City, Manchester and beyond. Xylem, a global water technology company, will be bringing clean water access to the community in Cape Coast, and new City Football Group technology partner, Cisco, will be supporting the development of a STEM education curriculum in Mumbai.
Over the course of the six-week campaign, fans will hear first-hand from the Young Leaders in each of the six projects and will be asked to play an active role in supporting their work by voting for the one that resonates with them the most.
