Vidosic: It’s about belief now

Melbourne City Women’s Head Coach, Dario Vidosic, has expressed the importance of belief ahead of City’s clash with top-of-the-table Sydney FC on Saturday.

City will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they host the ladder leaders following their Melbourne Derby defeat on Monday. Against their cross-town rivals, Vidosic’s side had 23 shots to 12 but were unable to find the back of the net, going down 2-0 at AAMI Park.

“It’s just about belief now,” Vidosic said. “I know we have a young squad and we’re learning, but this is a fantastic opportunity after last weekend.”

“In the second half we were really good, we controlled the game, we created enough chances that on another day you could still win that game. We know it’s hard to concede goals and have to come back.”

With full focus now on Sydney FC, City’s mindset will remain the same, to claim all three points and continue putting the pressure on in the race for the top four.

“We’ve had an excellent training week and we’re really looking forward to the challenge that Sydney FC will set,” Vidosic said.

“Regardless of who the opposition is, I’ve said it from the first day and I’ll say it to the last, we want to win.

“We play to win, we want to play our brand of football and dictate the game, control it, and create chances and take those chances. Tomorrow we go out with the same mentality, we want to win and to keep putting pressure on.”
