City young gun Daniel Arzani has been selected in the 32-man preliminary squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
The selection comes as no shock for the 19-year-old after his stellar breakout season in the A-League, seeing him light up the league with his ability on the ball and impact in the final third.
The squad will be cut to 26 before the squad gathers for in Turkey for their final friendlies against the Czech Republic and Hungary and then to a final 23 for the World Cup.
Socceroos Head Coach Bert van Marwijk says he’s looking forward to assessing the full squad ahead of the first group match against France.
I am looking forward to the time in Turkey because there I will be able to work with the players every day, and most of the time it will be two times a day. In those few weeks it must be very clear for the players what we want,” van Marwijk said.
