The race for NPL2 West promotion heats up on Saturday afternoon as Melbourne City take on St Albans Saints at the CFA Academy Pitches.
With five matches left of the regular season, a range of strange results and the lack of a clear dominant force in the league has tightened up the race at the top, making our NPL side’s clash on Saturday vitally important for the context of both team’s seasons.
After three losses on the trot, the NPL boys got back to winning ways last weekend as they defeated Ballarat Red Devils 2-0 at Morshead Park. With results in the league going City’s way in the past month, the boys are still in the race to the promotion playoff spot, two points from St Albans in second place.
The Saints have been the biggest movers over the past month, making their way up the table with three wins in five matches but the weird and wacky results of NPL2 West picked up its latest casualty last week as St Albans fell to the resurgent Werribee City 1-0.
Saturday’s contest has the making to make or break our NPL season with three points crucial if the side are to be in the mix during the final days of the season.
