What Happened?
City had the better of starts, pouncing on a poor kick-off from Dinamo to create a chance inside the opening 15 seconds. Akeem Gerald was first to pull the trigger, though his effort wasn’t able to trouble the keeper.
We didn’t stop there, as we were able to build on our bright start by maintaining possession and producing multiple chances through Aaron Cartwright and Tobias Servin.
Soon after, City’s promising start was rewarded when relentless pressure from the forward line forced the Dinamo defence into an error at the back. Gerald quickly received the ball before finding Roland Ballah, who unleashed a clinical strike from the edge of the box into the top-left corner to give us a deserved lead.
The momentum briefly swung in the hosts’ favour as they began to see more of the ball. A shot from distance flashed just wide before our defence settled, remaining compact and limiting Dinamo’s chances to threaten further.
Things got difficult as the fog started to set in at the half-hour mark, as both teams kept battling for sustained momentum. Cartwright hit the ball with force from outside the box to fly just wide of goal, while our defence was kept busy at the other end from dangerous balls in the box.
Despite both sides continuing to search for another breakthrough before the interval, neither could find the finishing touch, which left us heading into the break with a deserved one-goal lead.
Following the break, we were quick to settle back into possession, patiently building from the back and looking to pick the right pass as they searched for openings in the final third.
Our composed approach soon turned into a dangerous counter-attack when Angus Mackintosh played a perfectly weighted ball through to Ballah, sending him one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Ballah looked set to double our advantage, but the Dinamo keeper produced a sharp save to keep the hosts within reach.
At the opposite end, Lachlan Charles was called into action shortly after, reacting well to deny a header directed towards goal from a Dinamo corner and preserve the lead.
Then, on the hour mark, Ballah struck again to double our advantage. A swift move built from the back saw us work the ball into the area, where Ballah met it with a close-range effort.
Protests from the Dinamo goalkeeper followed as he claimed to have kept the effort out after getting a hand to it, though the referee determined the ball had already crossed the line with the goal standing.
The hosts came close to finding their way back in minutes later, when a quick transition saw the resulting effort from the right edge of the box rattle the post.
We remained disciplined throughout the closing stages, controlling possession well and frustrating any hopes of a Dinamo comeback. We ultimately saw out the match comfortably, walking away with a hard-fought 2–0 victory.
