Signing wrap up: W-League squad continues to take shape

Signing wrap up: W-League squad continues to take shape

It’s been a busy couple of weeks of W-League news coming out of the Club, with five signings being announced as the season draws closer.

A big signing was announced last Wednesday with former Young Matilda Rhianna Pollicina confirmed to be pulling in the City blue in season 2021/22. The dynamic midfielder has made 13 W-League appearances and most recently played at the Newcastle Jets where she took out their Player of the Year last season.

The good news for City fans continued to filter through a couple of days later with Leah Davidson re-signing on a deal that will see her at the Club next season. The hard-working midfielder impressed in her first season in Melbourne, playing all but four minutes of the campaign and taking out the Coaches Award at the Club’s player of the year night.

Defender Tori Tumeth was the next of last season’s bunch to re-commit, also signing on for the next two seasons. Similar to Davidson, she was one of the bright spots of last season for City and also appeared in every fixture. With such strong performances in her first year at the level, City will be looking forward to see Tumeth continue to improve in coming seasons.

That news was followed up yesterday with Kaitlyn Torpey swapping Brisbane for Melbourne and making the move over to City.

With 43 W-League appearance under her belt, the 21-year-old already has plenty of experience and looks set to add an attacking threat from defence to Rado Vidosic’s squad this season.

Wrapping up a big couple of week’s was this morning’s announcement of Naomi Chinnama’s return. After originally being a train-on player, Chinnama would sign a deal on the eve and last season before going on to play six games at just 16-years-old. She showed plenty of great signs are no doubt will only get better and better in her next two seasons at City.

Confirmed 2021/22 W-League squad (so far): Chelsea BLISSETT, Emma CHECKER, Naomi CHINNAMA, Leah DAVIDSON, Rhianna POLLICINA, Rebekah STOTT, Kaitlyn TORPEY, Tori TUMETH, Hannah WILKINSON.
