Melbourne City FC can announce David Williams has been released to pursue an opportunity overseas.
Williams, 27, joined ahead of the Hyundai A-League 2011/2012 season from North Queensland Fury, making a record 101 A-League appearances for the Club and scoring 21 goals across five seasons.
Williams’ standout campaign came during the 2013/14 season, which was headlined by a 12 goal haul in 26 matches, setting a Club record for most goals scored in a season.
He concluded the season with a number of Club records and a hat-trick of awards – the Club’s Player of the Year, Supporters’ Player of the Year and the Club’s Golden Boot Award.
In the same season, Williams claimed the Club’s first-ever hat-trick in a 5-0 win against Wellington Phoenix and currently holds the title of the Club’s all-time top scorer with 21 goals.
Williams also became the first player in the Club’s history to reach the 100 match milestone, coming on as a substitute in Melbourne City’s 3-2 win over Western Sydney Wanderers at AAMI Park on Saturday 9 January 2016.
A versatile attacking utility, Williams has been a consistent presence in Melbourne City’s first team and a popular figure among the Club’s supporters.
Head Coach John van’t Schip thanked Williams for his contribution.
“David’s contribution speaks for itself – to have played over 100 matches for the Club makes him one of our most recognisable players,” van’t Schip said.
“On behalf of the Club and the fans, we would like to wish David all the best in the next chapter of his career.”
