CALLED UP: City young guns named in Young Matildas squad

Melbourne City duo Alexia Apostolakis and Shelby McMahon have been named in the Young Matildas squad for the upcoming Four Nations Tournament in Canberra.

The talented duo will represent the Young Matildas as they face off against the senior women’s national teams of Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands, followed by a match against the Thailand U-20 Women’s National Team.

This round-robin tournament presents a crucial opportunity for the squad to prepare for the AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers later this year.

Since signing with City ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, 18-year-old Apostolakis has enjoyed a standout campaign, cementing her spot at fullback under Michael Matricciani. While 16-year-old McMahon continues to go from strength to strength after suffering an interrupted start to the season due to injury.

The City young guns will depart for national team duty following City’s clash with Sydney FC this Saturday night. Don’t miss it, get your tickets here.
