Melbourne City FC can confirm that Yonatan Cohen will not return to the Club for the 2025/26 season.
The 29-year-old etched his name into City folklore in the 2025 A-League Men’s Grand Final, scoring in the 10th minute to deliver what would ultimately prove the Championship-winning goal.
Despite missing more than two months with a serious knee injury mid-season, Cohen still managed to make 19 appearances, finding the net six times and providing three assists.
His composure in big moments was a highlight, with further crucial goals in the Christmas Derby and Semi-Final First Leg.
Cohen leaves Melbourne as a key contributor to the Club’s second A-League Men’s Championship, having brought both quality and experience to the squad in his season-long stint.
Melbourne City FC Director of Football, Michael Petrillo, said:
“While we remained in regular discussions with Yonatan’s management in recent months, we have mutually agreed that both parties will now move in different directions.
“We are currently in the process of identifying the right player to bring in to add some further quality and depth to the squad.
“Yonatan made a big impact in a relatively short period, delivering in some of the biggest moments of the season, including of course, the Grand Final.
“We thank him for his contributions and wish him well in the next chapter of his career.”
