Kosovan international joins City ahead of Championship defence

Melbourne City FC is delighted to announce the signing of Kosovan international Elbasan Rashani for the upcoming season.

A versatile and hardworking winger, Rashani arrives in Melbourne after playing a role in Elche CF’s promotion to La Liga last season. Comfortable on either wing, he brings creativity and end product in the final third, combining a sharp delivery from wide areas with the ability to cut inside and score goals himself.

With more than a decade of experience across Europe, the 32-year-old has enjoyed standout stints in Norway, France, Turkey and Denmark, amassing over 300 senior appearances.

His international résumé includes 29 caps and five goals for Kosovo, where he has regularly featured alongside former City midfielder Valon Berisha.

Rashani now joins a City squad determined to defend its A-League Men’s Championship and make an impact on the continental stage, with their AFC Champions League Elite campaign set to begin at home against Sanfrecce Hiroshima next Tuesday.

Melbourne City FC Director of Football, Michael Petrillo, said:

“In filling our final international spot for the season, we wanted to find not only the right player to fit our style of football, but also the right person to align with the Club’s culture and values.

“Elbasan brings a wealth of top-level experience, technical quality, and an incredible work ethic, and we believe he’ll add another dimension to what is already a strong attacking group. We’re excited to see the impact he can have in the season ahead.”

Elbasan Rashani said:

“This opportunity to join the reigning Champions of Australia is one I’m extremely excited for.

“From everything I’ve heard and now seen firsthand, Melbourne City is a Club with a fantastic environment and a strong ambition to keep winning. I’m looking forward to meeting the fans and doing everything I can to contribute to another successful season.”
