Melbourne City young gun, Max Caputo, has committed his long-term future to the Club, signing a new deal that will see him remain a City player until at least the end of the 2025/2026 season.
Caputo made his debut as a 15-year-old in June 2021, the second youngest Men’s player to appear at A-Leagues level for City.
One of the most promising prospects in the City Academy, Caputo already has seven senior appearances to his name and scored a memorable debut goal against Newcastle Jets in Round 22 last season, equalising in stoppage time in front of a home crowd.
Following the completion of the 2022/23 ALM season, Caputo made the trip to Portugal with the Australia U18 national team, taking on some of Europe’s best young talent.
He quickly made his mark on the international stage too, scoring against both England and Norway in what was an impressive tournament for the 17-year-old.
Caputo’s re-signing comes hot on the heels of the recent arrivals of young guns Zane Schreiber, Patrick Beach and Alessandro Lopane, further strengthening the Club’s Academy program with a number of highly rated youngsters calling City home.
Melbourne City FC Director of Football, Michael Petrillo, said:
“Max has a bright future, and with his attitude towards the game, will continue to improve. We are pleased he has committed to a long-term contract with us.
“It’s important that we continue to promote our Academy players. Max is one who has come through our ranks and into the first team environment at an early age but realises with time, hard work and patience, he will get further opportunities to make his mark.”
Max Caputo said:
“I’ve been at City since I was 12 years old, and I have developed a lot as a player and a person. I still have a lot I want to achieve here, so it was an easy decision to re-sign.
“I’m looking forward to continuing my progression and working hard to involve myself more in the first team. Hopefully in the new season, I can earn more opportunities to play and help the team to win games.
“I know that being at City with the experienced players and coaches around me is the best way to help me achieve my goals for the future.”
