Ferreyra departs City after Championship-winning spell

Championship-winning defender Germán Ferreyra will depart Melbourne City following the conclusion of his contract, bringing an end to an impressive two-year stint at the Club.

The Argentine centre-back made 61 appearances across all competitions in City blue and played a key role in our 2024/25 Championship triumph.

Ferreyra delivered in several big moments throughout that title-winning campaign, scoring two crucial goals late in the season. The first came in dramatic fashion with a late winner against Brisbane Roar, before he again rose to the occasion in our Semi Final victory over Western United to help send City into the Grand Final.

A commanding and consistent presence in defence, Ferreyra also played all but one minute of City’s AFC Champions League Elite campaign, starting each match and proving a reliable figure on the continental stage.

Across his two seasons at the Club, Ferreyra established himself as a dependable presence in the heart of City’s backline and quickly became a favourite among the City faithful.

Melbourne City FC Director of Football Michael Petrillo thanked Ferreyra for his contribution to the Club and wished him well for the next stage of his career.

“While we were hopeful of retaining Germán at the Club and had been in discussions around a potential contract extension, he has opted to pursue opportunities overseas,” Petrillo said.

“Germán has been an extremely important player over the past two seasons and someone who consistently performed at a high level for us.

“He played a major role in our Championship-winning season, stepped up in some of the biggest moments of that campaign and was also an integral part of our strong AFC Champions League Elite run.

“Beyond his performances on the pitch, Germán has been a terrific professional and a valued person around the Club throughout his time here.

“We thank him for everything he has contributed to Melbourne City and wish him all the very best for the future as he returns overseas.”
