City thanks Kuen and Souprayen as duo depart Club

Championship-winning duo Andreas Kuen and Samuel Souprayen will depart Melbourne City following the conclusion of their contracts, having each played important roles in the Club’s success across recent seasons.

The experienced internationals each made valuable contributions during their time in Melbourne, both on the pitch and within the playing group.

Souprayen arrived at City in July 2023 and quickly established himself as a reliable presence in the heart of defence. Across three seasons in Melbourne, the French defender made 74 appearances in all competitions and played a key role both domestically and during City’s AFC Champions League Elite campaigns.

Known for his calmness and leadership at the back, Souprayen became an integral part of City’s defensive unit throughout his time at the Club.

Kuen joined City ahead of the 2024/25 season and made an immediate impact, scoring twice in his opening five appearances in City blue.

The Austrian midfielder would go on to register five goals and 11 assists during his time at the Club, becoming an influential figure in midfield through his creativity, work rate and attacking quality.

Together, the experienced duo brought valuable leadership to the squad and both featured prominently throughout City’s Championship-winning season, making more than 20 appearances each during the campaign.

Melbourne City FC Director of Football Michael Petrillo thanked both players for their contributions on and off the pitch.

“Samuel and Andreas have both made significant contributions during their time at Melbourne City and have been important members of our squad over the past few seasons,” Petrillo said.

“Both players brought valuable experience and professionalism to our environment, and each played key roles throughout our Championship-winning season in 2024/25.

“Beyond their performances on the pitch, they have both been terrific people around the Club and highly respected members of the group.

“We thank Samuel and Andreas for everything they have contributed to Melbourne City and wish them both all the very best for the future.”
