Scott Jamieson, the most decorated player in Melbourne City history, has announced his retirement following the 2023 A-League Men’s Grand Final.
He will immediately move into the club’s A-League Men’s coaching set up for the 2023/24 season.
Jamieson joined City in 2017 and currently sits on 375 A-League Men’s appearances, sixth all-time in the competition’s history. He has been named in the PFA Team of the Season on three occasions throughout his club career.
A win in this Saturday’s Grand Final would see the club crowned Men’s Champions for the second time and would make Jamieson the most successful captain ever in the competition, with five trophies having come under his leadership.
He leads City into our four consecutive Grand Final and will be looking to go out in the best possible fashion with a win against the Mariners.
Jamieson’s most memorable moment in a City shirt came in the 2021 decider, scoring a crucial penalty against Sydney FC to give us the lead that would see us crowned Champions for the first time.
His move into the coaching set up sees Jamieson follow a similar trajectory to his former Head Coach, Patrick Kisnorbo, who also went immediately from captain into the club’s coaching ranks.

Jamie Maclaren, teammate and all-time leading scorer in the A-Leagues, added:
“Jamo is more than a player to our squad. In many ways we feel he is irreplaceable. He is a great leader and since he took on the captaincy our standards have lifted, and we are all better for it.
“He has had a fantastic career, he is the club’s most successful captain, and he has the trophies to show for it. As a teammate, you know that he always has your back, both on and off the pitch.
“Although I would love to see him continue to play, I know this next chapter will be special for him and his family. I have no doubt he will go onto be a successful coach.”
