Melbourne City FC has gone down to Sydney FC 1-3 in the Westfield FFA Cup after taking the game to extra-time.
Corey Gameiro’s 23rd minute strike was cancelled out by Nick Kalmar in the 64th minute to send the game into extra-time; however, two penalties to Sydney in the second half sealed the result for the visitors.
Jason Hoffman was outpaced by Gameiro for the first penalty and received a straight red for fouling his opponent, while Robbie Wielaert brought down Terry Antonis for the second spot kick. Ali Abbas calmly slotted home both two penalties in the same bottom left corner to seal Sydney FC’s passage into the Round of 16.
