Socceroo midfielder joins City on loan

Melbourne City FC is delighted to announce the arrival of Australian international Ryan Teague, who joins the Club on loan from Belgian Pro League side K.V. Mechelen for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.

A composed and technically gifted midfielder, Teague adds further quality and depth to Aurelio Vidmar’s squad ahead of a crucial period in the campaign, with City competing across both the second half of the A-League Men’s season and looking to qualify for the AFC Champions League Elite knockout stages for the first time.

The 23-year-old arrives from Belgium after signing with Mechelen in July 2025 and has already accumulated valuable European experience through previous spells in Portugal with Famalicão and Sporting da Covilhã.

Teague returns to Australia with a strong familiarity with the A-Leagues, having previously made over 50 league appearances, scoring five goals and registering a further five assists.

His form over the past 12 months earned him a maiden call-up to the Socceroos in March last year for a pair of 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Indonesia and China. Teague has since gone on to earn four senior international caps, making his debut with a start in a crucial 2-0 victory over China in Hangzhou.

A calm and intelligent presence in midfield with strong defensive qualities, Teague will provide balance and flexibility as City pushes for success both domestically and on the continental stage.

Having joined the squad in training this week, pending international clearance, Teague will be available for selection in Friday’s crucial home clash against Auckland FC at AAMI Park.

Melbourne City FC Director of Football, Michael Petrillo, said:

“We’re really pleased to welcome Ryan to Melbourne City. He’s a talented midfielder who has shown his quality at both club and international level, and we believe he’ll be a great addition to the squad.

“With an important run of fixtures coming up both domestically and in Asia, his arrival comes at the perfect time, giving us options and greater flexibility in the middle of the park.”

Ryan Teague said:

“I’m really excited to be joining Melbourne City and can’t wait to get started.

“It’s a Club that sets high standards and plays a great style of football, and I’m looking forward to contributing to the team at such an important part of the season.

“There’s a lot to play for, and I’m ready to help the group in any way I can.”
